i guess the theory is that the host (rapidshare/megaupload) whatever can't run straight checks on dodgy sounding/copyrighted content.

passwords therefore extend the link life. (if only for a little bit)

so i guess with non-descript encrypted files & links posted using something like rapidhider they probably wouldnt delete much that hadnt been complained about?

and besides, why gift them pron?

Also, a unique PW allows you to reup banned RS files without adding junk to the archives (to change the CRC fingerprint).

Are there any advice how to upload in the best way, preferred by the forum, using Rapidshare? Does passwords and protection like lix.in it really extend the time the file stays up?

When you upload material likely to be deleted soon, do you use your account or make anonymous uploads? Is there any risk of getting busted?

Thats what I was going to ask, I have about 10gigs I could upload but I was wondering about the security side of it, anyone every been in trouble through RS? I mean if they wanted they have your paypal/CC details from your account (premium). Or is it better to split the larger videos and upload them annon?

RS.com does NOT allow porn. Read the Terms of Service.

If you don't password protect them and someone complains about content, then they CAN tell what it is and delete it for violating the TOS.

If you copy & paste, occasionally you'll get an extra space that will screw up the password. In that case, just paste it into Wordpad and you'll see if you've gotten an extra space, and you can delete it. Don't whine about passwords, learn to use 'em.

I won't EVER upload without password protection and a non-obvious name.

And no, NONE of the anonymizer links (like linx.in) work. Try it. Make sure you're in a browser window and turn your RS.com cookie off so it thinks that you're a free user. Once you get the link from the redirect, RS shows you the full URL to the original file. They're all a complete waste of time.

This is the best way tp protect the files. If one poster forget to show the password it is easy to ask for it.

It is correct that RS.com does NOT allow porn in the TOS. But every fileshoster has this,
it is only for the protection of the filehoster. I think in this case (RS) to comply with the swiss law.
But in reality the filehoster know that there is a lot of porn and they remove the files only if there are copyright-problems.

Not every... we do not have it in our TOS and porn is legal to upload to us. (pandaupload.com)

They don't even bother to look. They get a complaint and they just kill the file.

How do you protect yourself against the recording/storing of your IP-address that RS.com does?

You can use a proxy for the upload, then they only save the proxy Ip. But then your upload speed is very slow.

They don`t give out any ip so I don`t use a proxy for uploading.
If somebody reports an upload it gets deleted and that is all. Nothing more happens.

They do work, they just don't do what you think they do (which can't be done anyway and wouldn't be of much use even if it could).

What they do is prevent RS from knowing that someone clicked the link through the specific page which is only a good think because it gives RS one less bit of information to use for file classification. Please DO use such services or do not provide direct links. ;)

The easiest way to get your files from being deleted is the naming convention. I never password protect my files and the only time i've ever had a file removed is when i had the file with the movie or program name, IE nero_v1.0..xxx.rar. Now for example in my movie posts i usually use the first letter of every word of the title. For example, Waist Watchers 3 i use ww3.rar. I personally despise passwords on files but if people want to use them that's their choice. I also don't like when people say "i posted these files please don't post them". To me that kind of defeats the purpose of these types of boards, which is to share. If someone wants to reup my posts by all means do so, the more links the more likely it will hang around and more people will be able to download. Just my 2 cents.
